Data Archiving & Permissions Policy

The Journal of Agronomy Research (JAR) is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility in agricultural science. We strongly encourage authors to archive research data in recognized public repositories, ensuring that your valuable findings remain accessible to the global scientific community for verification, replication, and future research.

Why Data Archiving Matters: Open data practices enhance the credibility of your research, increase citation rates, and contribute to the advancement of agronomy and agricultural sciences worldwide. By making your data publicly available, you enable other researchers to build upon your work and accelerate scientific discovery.

Data Availability Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to JAR must include a Data Availability Statement in their submission, clearly indicating:

  • Where the data is available: Provide the name of the repository and a direct link or DOI to the dataset
  • Access conditions: Specify whether data is publicly accessible, available upon request, or subject to restrictions
  • Data type and format: Briefly describe the nature of the data (e.g., field measurements, genomic sequences, climate data)
  • Restrictions (if any): Explain any ethical, legal, or commercial restrictions that limit data sharing

Sample Data Availability Statements

Example 1 (Open Access): "All data generated and analyzed during this study are included in this published article and its supplementary information files. Raw datasets are available in the Dryad Digital Repository: https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.xxxxx"

Example 2 (Available on Request): "The datasets generated during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request due to privacy/ethical restrictions."

Example 3 (Proprietary Data): "The data that support the findings of this study are available from [Company/Organization Name] but restrictions apply to the availability of these data, which were used under license for the current study."

Copyright & Licensing Permissions

Authors retain copyright of their published work in JAR under our Open Access publishing model. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which allows:

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt: Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use
  • Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given to the original authors

Reusing Third-Party Materials

If your manuscript includes figures, tables, or text excerpts from previously published works, you must obtain written permission from the copyright holder and provide proper attribution. This applies to:

  • Figures or images from other publications
  • Substantial text excerpts (beyond fair use)
  • Tables or datasets from external sources
  • Photographs or illustrations created by others

Important: Include permission letters as supplementary files during submission and cite the original source in your manuscript.

Supplementary Materials Policy

JAR encourages authors to submit supplementary materials that enhance the understanding and reproducibility of their research. Acceptable supplementary materials include:

  • Raw datasets: Excel, CSV, or text files containing experimental data
  • Additional figures and tables: Supporting visual materials not included in the main text
  • Multimedia files: Videos, audio recordings, or interactive visualizations
  • Code and scripts: Statistical analysis scripts, modeling code, or software tools
  • Detailed protocols: Extended methodological descriptions or laboratory protocols

All supplementary materials will be published alongside your article and assigned a DOI for permanent accessibility.

Ethical Considerations & Data Privacy

When archiving data, authors must ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and data protection regulations:

  • Human subjects data: Anonymize personal information and obtain informed consent for data sharing
  • Sensitive locations: Avoid disclosing precise locations of endangered species or protected sites
  • Proprietary data: Respect confidentiality agreements with funding agencies or commercial partners
  • Indigenous knowledge: Honor traditional knowledge protocols and obtain community consent
