Manuscript Preparation

File Format

  • Preferred: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Line Spacing: Double-spaced throughout
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Page Numbers: Consecutive, bottom center

Manuscript Structure

1. Title Page

  • Concise, informative title (max 150 characters)
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations with addresses
  • Corresponding author email and ORCID
  • Running title (max 50 characters)
  • Word count (excluding abstract and references)

2. Abstract

  • Background: Context and objectives
  • Methods: Brief methodology
  • Results: Key findings with data
  • Conclusions: Main implications
  • Keywords: 4-6 relevant terms
  • No citations or abbreviations in abstract

3. Introduction

  • Background and context
  • Literature review (concise)
  • Knowledge gaps
  • Research objectives/hypotheses
  • Significance of the study

4. Materials & Methods

  • Study design and location
  • Materials, cultivars, treatments
  • Experimental procedures
  • Data collection methods
  • Statistical analysis
  • Ethics approval (if applicable)

5. Results

  • Present findings logically
  • Use tables and figures effectively
  • Include statistical significance
  • Avoid interpretation (save for Discussion)
  • Do not duplicate data in text and tables

6. Discussion

  • Interpret results in context
  • Compare with previous studies
  • Explain discrepancies
  • Discuss limitations
  • Practical implications
  • Future research directions

7. Conclusions

  • Summarize main findings
  • Answer research questions
  • Highlight key contributions
  • Avoid repeating abstract
  • Keep concise (1-2 paragraphs)

8. Acknowledgments

  • Funding sources
  • Technical assistance
  • Contributors not listed as authors
  • Permissions for copyrighted material

References

JAR follows the APA 7th Edition citation style. All references must be cited in text and listed alphabetically.

Figures

  • Format: TIFF, JPEG, or PNG
  • Resolution: Minimum 300 dpi
  • Size: Fit within page margins
  • Color: RGB for online; CMYK for print
  • Labels: Clear, legible font (Arial 8-10 pt)
  • Caption: Below figure, numbered consecutively
  • Submit as separate files (not embedded)

Tables

  • Format: Editable (Word or Excel)
  • Title: Above table, numbered consecutively
  • Footnotes: Below table, use superscript
  • Units: Clearly indicated in column headers
  • Abbreviations: Defined in footnotes
  • Use horizontal lines only (no vertical lines)
  • Keep simple and readable

Supplementary Materials

Additional materials that support your research can be submitted as supplementary files:

  • Raw datasets (Excel, CSV)
  • Additional figures or tables
  • Video files (MP4, max 500 MB)
  • Detailed protocols or questionnaires
  • Statistical analysis code (R, Python, SAS)

Ethical Requirements

Ethics Approval

Studies involving human subjects, animals, or field trials on private/protected land must have institutional ethics committee approval. Include approval number and date in Methods section.

Informed Consent

For case studies or research involving identifiable individuals, written informed consent must be obtained. Include consent statement in manuscript.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must declare any financial or non-financial competing interests. If none exist, state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Data Availability

Include a statement on how readers can access the data supporting your findings. Deposit datasets in public repositories when possible.

All listed authors must have made substantial contributions. Use the CRediT taxonomy:

Pre-Submission Checklist

  • Manuscript follows JAR formatting guidelines
  • All authors approved the final version
  • Manuscript is original and not under review elsewhere
  • Abstract is within word limit
  • Keywords provided (4-6 terms)
  • References formatted in APA style
  • Figures are high resolution (300 dpi minimum)
  • Tables are editable and properly formatted
  • Ethics approval obtained (if applicable)
  • Conflicts of interest declared
  • Data availability statement included
  • Cover letter prepared

Language & Style

  • Language: Manuscripts must be in clear, grammatical English
  • Spelling: Use either US or UK English consistently
  • Abbreviations: Define at first use; avoid in title and abstract
  • Units: Use SI units throughout
  • Scientific Names: Italicize genus and species (e.g., Triticum aestivum)
  • Gene Names: Follow standard nomenclature for your organism
