Who Should Apply
We welcome experienced researchers, clinicians, and industry experts with a strong publication record in biomaterials, biomedical engineering, or related translational fields. Editorial roles are best suited for candidates with subject expertise and a commitment to rigorous peer review.
Ideal candidates have a history of peer review, a clear research focus, and the ability to provide balanced editorial decisions. Experience with multidisciplinary teams is an advantage because JBI publishes across chemistry, engineering, and clinical domains.

Editor Responsibilities
Editors assess scope fit, select reviewers, and guide decisions based on scientific merit. They uphold confidentiality, manage conflicts of interest, and communicate decisions clearly to authors.
Editors are expected to handle manuscripts in their expertise area and maintain timely progress through review and revision stages.

Most editors handle a modest number of manuscripts each quarter, depending on specialty and submission volume. Assignments are matched to expertise and availability to ensure manageable workloads.
Editors should aim to keep manuscripts moving through the review process and notify the editorial office if additional support is needed.
Clear decision letters and constructive guidance help authors respond effectively and raise the overall quality of published work.
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by the editorial office and Editor in Chief. Selection is based on subject expertise, publication quality, and alignment with JBI scope. Qualified candidates may be invited to serve as associate editors or editorial board members.
All editors must agree to confidentiality, conflict of interest disclosure, and ethical publishing standards.
Selected editors receive onboarding guidance, access to editorial resources, and support from the JBI office.
Applicants are notified once a review decision is made.
