Overview
Zoonotic pathogens are microorganisms that are able to spread between animals and humans. Examples of zoonotic pathogens include certain viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Zoonotic pathogens can cause a wide range of diseases, such as rabies, avian and pandemic influenza, SARS, Ebola, and malaria, among others. Due to their contagious nature, zoonotic pathogens can often have serious, even fatal, effects when transmitted from animals to humans. Therefore, it is important to take all necessary steps to prevent human infection, including avoiding contact with wild or domestic animals, ensuring food safety and hygiene regulations are met, and seeking medical attention if necessary.
