Overview
Chronic wounds are wounds that have not fully healed and remain open for an extended period of time. They can occur in many forms, such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and any wound that does not heal within a normal time frame. Chronic wounds can be caused by a variety of factors, including infection, poor circulation, advanced age, certain diseases or a lack of proper wound care. Without proper treatment, chronic wounds can severely impact quality of life by causing pain, affecting mobility and lead to serious medical complications. Fortunately, there are a variety of wound care products and treatments available to help treat chronic wounds, from topical creams, gels, and bandages to advanced wound care therapy. Working with a qualified wound care specialist is critical for developing an effective treatment plan for chronic wounds. With the right mix of wound care products, treatment, and follow-up care, healing of chronic wounds is possible.
