Biography
Dr. Olaoluwa Okusaga is affiliated with the Michael E. DeBakey U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (Cantu). He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) from Ogun State University, Nigeria, in 1999, and later completed a Master of Science in Public Health Research (MScPHR) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2008. His postgraduate training includes an internship at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, rotational training in general adult, geriatric, intensive care, and rehabilitation psychiatry across institutions in England and Scotland, and psychiatry residency training at Saint Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, DC, completed in 2012. Dr. Okusaga's research has focused on the neurobiological underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, with his most-cited work examining the interplay between brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and oxidative stress in chronic schizophrenia, published in 2015 and cited 83 times.
