Overview
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity that interfere with functioning across academic, social, occupational, and family settings. Typically identified in childhood, ADHD often continues into adolescence and adulthood, and its presentation varies between individuals and may differ by gender, contributing to under-recognition and late diagnosis in some groups, particularly females. ADHD is managed through a combination of approaches that can include medication, behavioural and psychological therapy, educational support, and lifestyle measures, with growing attention to building protective factors and resilience. Research published under this topic addresses the role of assistive technologies in supporting students with ADHD, gender disparities and the factors and impacts of late diagnosis in females, and the influence of impulsivity and ADHD on real-world behaviours such as financial risk-taking and investment outcomes. Further work examines building resilience among children and youth with ADHD by identifying and developing protective factors in academic, interpersonal, and cognitive domains, alongside related neurodevelopmental and mental-health themes including neurofeedback approaches and broader psychophysiological assessment, reflecting the disorder's developmental, clinical, and functional dimensions.
