Overview
Plant genetics and gene expression is a field of study focused on the genetic and molecular processes that govern the development and functioning of plant life. Through the use of molecular biological techniques, such as DNA sequencing and transcriptional profiling, scientists study how genes interact to produce different traits in plants, how their expression is regulated, and how it can be manipulated to breed new varieties of plants. By understanding the fundamentals of plant genetics and gene expression, plant breeders can develop lines of plants that are better suited to their environment, increasing crop yields and improving the quality of food. Additionally, this research is essential for understanding how plants respond to a changing climate and has implications for the production of renewable energy sources. As a result, an understanding of plant genetics and gene expression would be of great benefit to many researchers, agricultural professionals, and plant breeders, as well as for the wider public.
