Overview

Oral health in children is essential for overall health and well-being. Good oral health can help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems that can affect nutrition, speech, and self-esteem. Poor oral health can affect a child's development and school success. Parents, caregivers, teachers, and health care providers can help children maintain good oral health by brushing and flossing regularly and assisting with fluoride applications. Eating a healthy diet, limiting sugary snacks and drinks, and visiting a dentist regularly are other important steps that can help protect the oral health of children.
