A case series is an observational study design that describes the clinical features, course, management, and outcomes of a group of patients sharing a particular diagnosis, exposure, or intervention, without a control or comparison group. Frequently used to characterize rare conditions, unusual presentations, or novel treatments, case series generate descriptive evidence and hypotheses for further investigation. While limited in establishing causation, they remain valuable for documenting natural history, identifying emerging patterns, and informing clinical recognition and subsequent controlled research.
