Biography
Song-Yang Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Human Nutrition at McGill University, where his laboratory studies the neuroendocrine control of energy balance. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and a PhD from Peking University. His research investigates how inflammatory cytokine signalling in the brain is initiated and how it regulates energy, glucose, and lipid metabolism in response to feeding — both in health and, when this signalling is overactive under overnutrition, in metabolic disease. Recent work examines GDF15-mediated gut–brain and kidney–brain axes that suppress food intake, together with the roles of appetite regulation, obesity, and diabetes in nutritional physiology.
