Biography

Jari Koistinaho, MD, PhD, serves as Director at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland, where he leads research focused on induced pluripotent stem cells, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and inflammation. He received his doctoral training at the University of Tampere and has since established a distinguished research program investigating neurodegenerative diseases through cellular and molecular approaches. His work encompasses the development of iPSC-derived disease models, particularly for Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, as well as studies on neuroinflammation, stroke neuroprotection, and metabolic alterations in brain cells. His most-cited publication, "Metabolic alterations in Parkinson's disease astrocytes" (2020), has received 166 citations and exemplifies his contributions to understanding cellular pathology in neurodegenerative disorders, with over 23 indexed publications advancing the field.
