Overview
A COVID-19 review synthesises existing evidence on the biology, transmission, clinical features, management, and societal impact of disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus responsible for the pandemic that emerged in 2019. Narrative and systematic reviews consolidate findings across virology, epidemiology, clinical medicine, and public health to characterise the virus, its modes of spread, the spectrum of illness from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia and multi-organ involvement, and the strategies developed for prevention and treatment. Review articles also examine the wider consequences of the pandemic, including effects on education, training, healthcare systems, supply chains, and human and social capital, as well as evidence on personal protective equipment, immunomodulatory approaches, and population-level prevention. By appraising and integrating primary studies, reviews help identify consensus, expose gaps and uncertainties, and frame priorities for further investigation, while distinguishing well-supported conclusions from preliminary or contested claims. Research published in this area provides reference syntheses spanning the scientific and societal dimensions of coronavirus disease, supporting clinicians, researchers, and decision-makers. This journal publishes peer-reviewed review and analysis on the coronavirus family and COVID-19.
