Overview
Coronavirus treatment encompasses the medical approaches used to manage infections caused by coronaviruses, most prominently COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2. Treatment strategies include antiviral drugs that target viral replication, immune-modulating therapies that adjust the host response, supportive care for respiratory and other complications, and experimental approaches under investigation. Because effective treatment depends on rigorous evaluation, clinical studies assessing the safety and efficacy of candidate therapies are central to determining what works and for whom. Research in this journal examines several treatment approaches for COVID-19. Reported work includes a study of the effect of hydroxychloroquine on clinical improvement and mortality among hospitalized patients in Saudi Arabia, and a non-systematic review of cell therapy as an alternative approach for the consequences of COVID-19 infection. These studies illustrate how treatments are evaluated and how different therapeutic strategies are explored. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to coronavirus treatment and the management of COVID-19.
