Overview
Cervical cancer is a malignancy that arises in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. It is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide and is strongly linked to persistent infection with high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Because precancerous changes typically develop slowly and without symptoms, cervical cancer is largely preventable and detectable through regular screening, including cytology and HPV testing, as well as through HPV vaccination. Early detection markedly improves treatment outcomes and survival. The journal's research engages extensively with prevention and screening, including "One Out of Five Women Practiced Cervical Cancer Screening in Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital" (2021) and "Uptake of Cervical Cancer Screening and Its Determinants among Refugee Women in Uganda" (2025), which examine screening behavior and access in different populations, alongside "Review: The Role of Human Papillomavirus in Virus-Induced Carcinogenesis" (2025), which addresses the viral cause underlying most cervical cancers. Together these studies highlight the importance of screening and HPV in prevention and care. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to cervical cancer, supporting clinicians and researchers studying its causes, screening, treatment, and prevention.
