Overview

Blood plasma is the liquid component of blood, comprising approximately 55% of total blood volume, in which red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are suspended. This straw-colored fluid consists primarily of water, proteins, electrolytes, nutrients, hormones, and waste products, serving critical roles in transport, immunity, and hemostasis. Research published in Hematology and Oncology Research addresses plasma's involvement across diverse clinical contexts, including its protein constituents in bleeding disorders and hematological malignancies, where von Willebrand factor and ADAMTS13 autoantibodies have been examined in aggressive cancers. Studies have investigated plasma biomarkers such as microRNAs in melanoma patients, correlating expression patterns with disease progression and survival outcomes. The journal has explored plasma amino acid profiles in liver disease pathogenesis and treatment, nutrient impacts on metabolic conditions like diabetes, and vasoactive substance alterations in cardiovascular remodeling. Plasma parameters serve as diagnostic and prognostic indicators in conditions ranging from sickle cell anemia, where tricuspid regurgitant velocity correlates with clinical features, to dengue hemorrhagic fever, where hematological disturbances reflect disease severity. Understanding plasma composition and dynamics remains essential for diagnosing hematological disorders, monitoring disease progression, and developing targeted therapeutic interventions.
