Overview
Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by excessive fear, worry, and related behavioral disturbances that interfere with daily functioning. Research published in this journal addresses multiple dimensions of anxiety disorders relevant to Family Medicine practice, including investigations into the neurobiological mechanisms underlying anxiety, such as the role of cholecystokinin in fear and anxiety responses. Studies have examined complementary and alternative treatment approaches, including the effectiveness of Reiki therapy and network pharmacology analyses of essential oil combinations for anxiety management. The journal has published work on anxiety in specific populations and contexts, including postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and anxiety-like behaviors potentially triggered by early-life painful experiences. Additional research has explored anxiety as a comorbid condition in various clinical scenarios, including cancer caregiving, breast cancer diagnosis, urological pain syndromes, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in females. Investigations into biofeedback interventions for heart rate variability and innovative therapeutic approaches for related conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder further contribute to understanding anxiety management in primary care settings.
