Overview
Melanomas are skin cancers that are caused by the abnormal growth of pigment-producing cells known as melanocytes. They are usually dark in color and can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most common on the face and neck. Melanomas can be caused by genetics, sun exposure and other environmental factors. Early detection and treatment is key to preventing melanoma, as it can spread to other parts of the body if not treated. Treatment options may include topical creams, radiation or surgery, depending on the severity of the melanoma. It's important to seek medical attention if there are any suspicious changes in the appearance of the skin.
