Overview

Molecular cancer therapeutics is the discipline that exploits the specific molecular features of malignant cells, such as driver mutations, dysregulated signaling pathways, aberrant gene and protein expression, and tumor-associated antigens, to design treatments that act selectively on cancer while sparing normal tissue. In contrast to non-selective cytotoxic approaches, it encompasses small-molecule inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and nucleic-acid and immunotherapeutic strategies guided by molecular diagnostics and predictive biomarkers, the foundation of precision oncology. Effective development depends on understanding the genomic and proteomic basis of each tumor and the mechanisms of acquired resistance. Research relevant to this area examines the molecular and cell-biological basis of sporadic solid-cancer development, platform-based complex-disease modeling for drug discovery, molecular diagnosis in thyroid cancer management, immunogenomic approaches to immunomonitoring, functional analysis of BRCA1 variants of uncertain significance, proteomic and genomic techniques applied to cancer and personalized medicine, somatic mutations in uterine leiomyosarcoma, and microfluidic nucleic-acid assays for cancer screening. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work in Cancer Genetics And Biomarkers addressing the molecular characterization of tumors and the rational design of targeted and biomarker-guided therapies, linking genomic, proteomic, and diagnostic research to the advancement of precision cancer treatment across multiple malignancies.
