Overview

Pathology is the branch of medicine and biomedical science concerned with the study of disease: its causes, mechanisms, and effects on cells, tissues, and organs. It encompasses both the broad scientific investigation of how diseases develop and progress and the practical examination of tissue, blood, and other specimens to reach a diagnosis. Pathologists use microscopy, molecular and immunological techniques, and clinical correlation to identify abnormalities underlying conditions such as cancer, infections, inflammatory disorders, and metabolic and degenerative disease, making pathology foundational to diagnosis, treatment planning, and research. Research in Biotechnology and Biomedical Science published in the journal reflects this breadth. Studies address diagnostic pathology techniques used to distinguish recurrent tumors from metastasis, the pathology of age-related macular degeneration with imaging biomarkers, allergic disease mechanisms, and links between intramuscular fat and osteoarthritis pathology, alongside work on tissue and organ abnormalities in liver, thyroid, and other systems. Together these contributions illustrate how modern pathology integrates morphology, molecular analysis, and clinical context. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to pathology, offering an evidence-based resource for readers studying disease mechanisms, diagnosis, and the laboratory methods that support them.
